Birthday Trip #2!

Back in early March, I turned the big 5-0 and I have to tell you, it's been pretty fabulous so far. :)

My sweet husband surprised me with a birthday trip that we just recently got back from!  He and some dear friends coordinated an amazing trip to the Texas Hill Country (wine tasting country) which included staying at a quaint and intimate bed and breakfast.

On the way down, we stopped for coffee and then lunch at some unique spots before hitting a couple of wineries to do some wine tasting.  Yum!

Our B&B was simply stunning!

The guys booked the two front veranda suites upstairs, so we had the entire upstairs veranda to ourselves!  I was astonished by the scenery and the intimate space.

There was time for a little nap before we headed out to enjoy (my first-ever) five-course dinner.

Day 1 was going to be hard to beat!

On day 2, as the guys went into Fredricksburg for a distillery tour, my girlfriend and I just hung out on the chaise lounge chairs on our veranda, drinking tea and chatting while enjoying the view and the piece and quiet.  I have to say, it was one of my favorite moments of the trip.  I felt like a queen!

When the boys got back, we all headed into town for lunch and to take a walk around the historic town of Fredricksburg, popping into unique shops as we checked things out.

We decided to take a short drive to the famous Luchenbach, Texas.

If you know anything about real country music, you know about Luchenbach. :)

That post office (now closed with a retired zip code) was from the 1860's.  It was a German settlement that was sold to a private owner in 1970.  The old post office is now a gift shop.  The saloon is still in back as well as the original dance hall.  The town is basically a ghost town.

Waylon Jennings and Willie Nelson catapulted this place into what it is today.  Other famous names that have come to sit and play a bit are: Pat Green, Lyle Lovett, Kenny Chesney, and Robert Earl Keen.

On any given day, you can drive up, pay cash for a cold beer, and sit and listen to artists from around the area who just come to play.

We headed back to our B&B for a special birthday celebration on the veranda, sitting up late visiting and laughing (like crazy), listening to music.

As Hank Williams Jr would sing, "Good friends - good whiskey - good lovins"

Day 2 was just as amazing.

I snapped some pics at breakfast the next morning.

We packed up shortly after breakfast and started back for home.

The views though!!!

I've had the best 50th, hands down.  Celebrating with my children, my mom and sisters, and now hubby and dear friends, I have no words except sincere gratitude for all of these folks.  They batted a grand slam when it came to helping me usher in this monumental birthday.

As I sit and type this post, I cannot stop thanking God for all the special people in my life.  I'm so grateful.  God is good, all the time.

Patty
