Mary, Mary, Quite Contrary

Square Foot Garden (2016 update #1)

Miss Mabel and I planted this year's square foot garden (5'x3') two weeks ago and by golly! we have success (so far).

We planted cucumbers, beans, carrots, green peppers, and tomatoes.  Everything, but the carrots, is growing, sprouting, or popping up.

David has a square foot garden next to ours and he planted all cucumbers and beans.

He also made a garden out of old pallets (pallets that his business product is always delivered on) which he planted cantaloupe in.

Square foot gardening is really fun to plan out.  The guide helps you get the most bang for your buck by telling you how many seeds (or plants) to put in each square foot depending on the plant.

For example:

2 cucumber seeds per square foot

4 bean seeds per sq ft

16 carrot seeds per sq ft

1 tomato plant per sq ft

1 pepper plant per sq ft

6 (small) marigolds per sq ft

We are keeping our fingers crossed for a successful garden this year :)

  1. I can't wait to put in our garden, but it is supposed to snow here tomorrow, so we can't yet!

  3. What a great looking garden. Good luck and wishing you abundant harvest. Everything we grow just tastes better, doesn't it?
