Preparing for the BIG Family Wedding

So it has been more than 12 years  since my BIG family (I am one of nine) celebrated a wedding, which was my baby brother's.  Getting together has proven difficult since half of us moved out of state.

In one month, we are flying up to Chicago for the first grandchild's wedding on my side.  To be honest, I'm most excited for my dear mom who hasn't had all of her children and grandchildren together at the same time since 2007!

To keep my budget in check and keep my sanity intact, I put a "plan of action" together, and it was simply to prepare and focus on one person a week.

So far, so good.

Miss Mabel's Week :

New jewlery  (Mixit from JCPenney)  and shoes (Kelly & Katie Becca Wedge Pump from DSW).

The dress (Target) and sweater (JCPenny) are from last Christmas...we were thinking ahead to the wedding when we bought them big.

New hair cut.

 Check.

(I love her natural honey-color!)

We took stock and she has all other clothing items she will be needing.  Amen.

Miss Clementine's Week :

I ordered these shoes (Stride Rite Buffy Girls from DSW).

They will go nicely with this dress that I bought on clearance last January.

My mom refers to her as a "pistol".

I bought that dress one size bigger at Gymbore $13 last January!!

Miss Clementine also needed a new, youth booster seat for the car.  She has almost outgrown her convertible carseat, and we will definitely need something lighter to check on the plane.

It's a Graco and the height of the back/head can be adjusted as she continues to grow.

Next up :  Mommy Week

I found this Max Edition dress at Stein Mart on clearance for $14 last spring.  Since I own a pair of Aerosoles Sassy Plush Wedge Sandals, I only needed some jewerly to go with it.

I found this Serena Necklace set at Charming Charlie's as well as the Olympia Stretch Bracelet.

Next up:  the new do

Depending on what the weather is going to be like up north, I may need to add a couple of long sleeve shirts to my "needs" list.

3 down, 4 to go!

Woot!  Woot!

  1. I really love the hair and you look beautiful in the dress! Y'all are looking great!
I'm happy for your mom too! What a feat to gather everyone at once! I'm only one of four and a wedding was the only time we all got together (kids, sons in law..).

    1. Thanks, Mary!

Growing up I remember hearing adults say that they only time they all get together is at someone's wedding or funeral.

  2. How exciting! I didn't know that you were one of 9 - how did I miss that after reading your blog all these years? (we're expecting #9 this January!!!) I can tell how much this all means to you with all the planning and preparations you're doing. I can't wait to see pictures - how will you all fit? Panoramic film??? :-)
Your new 'do looks great! What is your hair like? (thick/thin) Mine has been growing for over a year and I just don't know what to do. Needs to be easy and able to pull back on days when I have no time. You look so pretty!

    1. Congratulations, Heather! I LOVED being from a BIG family!

      Panoramic film is right! LOL

When I started wearing mine pulled up all the time, I knew it was time to cut it. I was feeling a bit frumpy, stagnant.

My hair is VERY thick. And I have been on thyroid medication for over 20 years! I'm blessed that I have such healthy hair especially with thyroid disease.

My hair is also VERY wavy. If I don't blow dry it or flat iron it, it gets all curly/wavy so I can actually wear this new style two different ways. A bonus!

    2. Love the new hair! Wish I had some natural curl/wave! I just spent the big bucks to get a little un-natural wave...didn't last long. :)

    1. Thanks, Margaret! That child keeps us in stitches. I was wanting just one photo of her to show the dress to Grammy and Aunties. I told my niece (bride to be) that the family pics may not be perfect ;)

  6. I love this post Patty! All the dresses are so pretty, your hair cut is beautiful! Sigh...though I wish my thick hair would like that great. :) I smiled about the new car seat. We just got Elizabeth a new car seat a few weeks ago. You would think we bought her the moon. She especially loves the the cubby holes and the cup holder. It is a Graco too, but I think slightly different than the one you have pictured. I love how little kids get excited about anything new. Oh and Clementine's pics are a hoot!! Have a fun at the wedding! I can't wait to see pictures. Sounds like a GREAT family vacation!

  8. The cuteness factor is just too much!! You girls are darling!! Clementine, a pistol. I totally see it and love it. So sweet. I really need to assess our car seat/seating arrangements before baby arrives since Gianna will need to move in the back. I should probably get on that since I've got but one month (or less) left.
The outfits you bought so fit each of you and you look so gorgeous mama. I'll admit that I'm sitting here jealous of your beauty, but only because I really like you. ;) The haircut is so stinkin' cute. Does hubby like it too? *wink, wink* I'm interested to read that you have wavy hair too. Right now I'm in a hair dilemma trying to figure out if the current hair is pregnant hair or 'grown out' hair and whether to keep it like this or not. I'm unsure how things will go post-baby so I really don't want to get stuck with this afterward and not be able to get in to the salon. My hair is wavy as well and unless I blow dry and flat iron, it's puffy and hard to tame. I still haven't found the perfect hair product to just be able to put something in it and let it dry. If I do that, I most often end up with a "poof" or crunchy product hair. You know what I'm saying? Ugh. Again, another to-do for pre-baby. Eeek! I better get moving on that list. lol.

So excited for your big family wedding and your family is going to look divine. Can't wait to see more of the outfits for the rest of the crew!

    1. Thanks for the kind words! When I started wearing my hair in a pony tail most days, I knew it was time for a change. Don't be afraid to go short before baby comes. You will already have a lot on your plate, who needs hair issues.

One thing I can't stand on my head is to have bangs in my eyes. Bangs have to be long enough for me to tuck behind my ears or short enough - like above my eyebrows with an angle.

You ALWAYS. Look so pretty and fresh AND young!

All 3 of those dresses are so pretty. Everyone is going to look fantastic. You are very good at shopping in advance....great deals and the sizes look perfect as well.
Wow! One of nine. My husband is the oldest of 8. And my mother in law is the oldest of 8 as well....and she was the only girl!! Needless to say, she cherishes her sisters in law.
