Southwest Texas Roadtrip

Our road trip to celebrate our 20th was awesome!

Texas is SO stinkin' big and beautiful.  My word!

The first day was spent on the road, making it to Odessa, TX for the night (land of the oil fields).

Day 2 was a-ma-zing!!

We hit the Monahans Sandhills State Park way out in Monahans, TX...way early to avoid baking desert sun.

What a cardio workout!  Crazy and fun.

Next we headed to Balmorhea State Park in Balmorhea, TX to cool off in a real desert oasis!

In the early 1930's, the Civilian Conservation Corps (CCC) used the Solomon Springs to create the world's largest, spring-fed swimming pool.

1.75 acres of crystal clear refreshing swimming!

This V-shaped pool was 30' deep (in the center ) and filled with fish and even turtles!

An oasis in the desert!

Early settlers have used the ancient springs for a rest stop and a way to irrigate the crops in the desert.

Next stop, a scenic drive up into the Davis Mountains State Park (over 5,000 feet above sea level) where we stayed for 3 nights at the Indian Lodge.

Not bad for one day of fun, huh?

More to come...

  3. Looks like a great start to your trip. That water you were swimming in looks so refreshing. How fun to be together AND doing such fun things. You two are so cute doing that sand sledding thing. Is that what they call it? And how come there's no one else around? Were you two totally laughing at how much fun you were having?
    Can't wait to see more....

  4. What beauty and what fun! I'm hoping by time we get to our 20th we'll be able to do something amazing like you did. Of course, I just did the math and realized how "old" hubby and I'll be. eek! Hopefully we're still as cute and youthful as the two of you. :)
