August 14 and August 23 are the feast days of St. Maximilian Kolbe and St. Rose of Lima, respectively.
I decided to pick these two saints for our August saints study because of this Glories Stories CD.
We have a handful of these Glory Stories CD's already, and I thought it was a good time to add to our collection.
St. Maximilian Kolbe was such an heroic man. He was a Polish Conventual Franciscan friar, who volunteered to die in place of a stranger (who was a young husband and father) in the Nazi German death camp of Auschwitz. You can find more of his faith-filled life, here.
St. Rose of Lima was actually named Isabel at birth, but because of her extreme beauty, she was called Rose. Rose had no desire to be known as beautiful, so she practiced severe self discipline and avoidance of all forms of indulgence. This amazing lady was also known to care for the needy in her city through her own private efforts. You can read more about St. Rose of Lima, here.
St. Maximilan Kolbe and St. Rose of Lima, pray for us!
