Homemade Pita Chips

While blogging about eating healthier snacks during the day for our home school, my friend Mary left a comment about making homemade pita chips.

So we looked up a recipe and made them one Saturday afternoon.  (Original recipe found here.)

Homemade Pita Chips


Ingredients ::

8 pita pockets (*I used two packages of four.)

1/2 cup olive oil

1/2 tsp ground black pepper

1 tsp garlic salt

11/2 tsp dried basil

1 tsp dried chervil  (*I did not have this herb and it still tasted great.)



Directions ::

1.  Preheat oven to 400 degrees F.

2. Thoroughly coat each pita bread pocket with the olive oil mixture.  The more you coat them, the better they taste.  

(The original recipe said to coat them AFTER you cut them into triangles.  That was really messy and took too long.  The second batch we coated prior to cutting...much simpler.)

3.  Cut each pita into 8 triangles. 

(Mabel used a pizza cutter.  Super easy.)

4.  Place each triangle on a lined cookie sheet.  Bake for 8-10 minutes in the pre-heated oven.  The longer you bake them the crispier they become, but don't burn them!


So crazy easy, a 10 year old can make these!  

We got 64 pita chips out of this batch...next time, I want to use them with a dip of some kind.
