Her High Chair

The Bumbo seat had a recall.  The company worked hard at putting out new safety straps.

The new straps work so good, we can't even fit her in the Bumbo seat now!  Way too tight.

Anyone else with this problem?  (For new mamas...you are better off just using the tray with it.)

So I pulled out the high chair.  (I had saved it for grand babies someday :)

David had to sand the tray and put a couple of coats of polyurethane on it.  (Solid maple.)  I bought a new cushion as well.

Her reaction?

The Bubbins didn't like it.  One bit.

(I believe she was a bit frightened.)

She calmed down when I introduced her to these ...

Her coaches, whom I refer to as Team Hughes,  are now helping her learn the fine motor skills of picking up and bringing to the mouth.

In other news ...

Big sister thinks it is AWESOME to be able to wear matching p.j.'s with baby sister.

Where many people are falling into Autumn...we are still swimming in summer weather.

However, we just received a notice that the subdivision is closing the pool for the winter on October 1.

David and I had a real quick date night on Saturday.

After Clementine went to bed, we snuck out to a BBQ joint for a 1 hour date!  LOL!

We will take whatever we can get.

Have a wonderful week!

  1. Good morning, Patty! Love love love your highchair! And glad your little angel got comfortable in it! Aren't those puffs great? I don't remember having them with my others. Flynn is almost 3 : ( and she still loves them! I keep little rubbermaid containers of them everywhere...in the van, in my purse, in my diaper bag. Lifesaver!!!!

And I am loving the matching pjs! I miss that sooo much! Poor little Flynn...she's on her own!

Enjoy your last few weeks of that beautiful pool! Have a good day, friend!

  2. The Bumbo recall...I just skipped it because I don't ever leave him unattended in it. I figured if he tips over while on the floor, he couldn't hurt himself too badly!

I need to introduce some finger foods. I think Peter would really like them. In the past we've had the problem of the older kids eating the baby treats before the baby can!

Hubby and I went out on a walk around the neighborhood last week. Not exactly a date, but time out alone with him was nice!

  3. graduates were a big hit here too, some time ago. love the photo of your and david. is he really that much taller than you? you look great!! yes, sneak out whenever you can -- lucky for you you've got many helpers !!

    1. Good morning, Gardenia.

Yes, David is tall. He's almost 6'4 and I'm 5'5!

  4. Oh I miss having alone time with my husband. I know what you mean you get one hour of time... coffee time, ice cream or just a small bite to eat... it brings the time closer together.

Your new baby is so adorable. I love your high chair. The ones they sell in the store are too big and also very plastic. I love the way it fits into the home and brings some softness to your kitchen.

I like the way you named your little helpers. I have them too! lol! but I name them the Lil' Rascals! blessings to you always! <3

    1. Thanks, Jackie. You know, the high chair was actually a hand-me-down from a BIL of mine. I think it is nearly 20 years old. Had a lot of use, it did!

  5. I too love your high chair! I hated our big plastic-y one! I just recently donated it to our Parish. They're still using the METAL tray ones...remember the ones that pinched our fingers when WE were kids! LOL

Puffs were favorites at our house, too!

Bumbo seats...never did like them. They weren't around when Mary Catherine was a babe...and Benjamin and Luke were just too strong for them. Actually, I never even tried it out with Luke...Ben was seated in it...on our family room floor (hardwood) and used his feet to arch his back and flipped over. Can you even imagine?!!! Lots of screaming (from the infant!) involved!

    1. Valerie, Clementine just recently started arching her back as well! I was waiting for it to flip and knew it was time for the high chair any way.

  6. I love that pic of you and your hubby! You both look great! I'm hoping to get a date night soon!

  7. I agree... the recall was silly. They recalled their product because parents couldn't figure out that you weren't supposed to use it unattended especially on top of a table. We tried Cupcake in one and saw from the get go as she tried to arch her way out of it that it wasn't going to work for her. But I always considered it the equivalent of placing a boppy around her bum while she was learning to sit up. I'm glad your little one warmed up to the high chair. Oh, and Cupcake recommends the blueberry and peach flavors!

    1. Clementine just started to try and arch her way out. So I knew it was time for the high chair anyway. Someone else commented on the same thing. BTW, we will definitely purchase Cupcake's recommendation :)

  8. I was going to comment on the difference in height, but someone beat me to it!
Those pictures are just adorable of Clementine! I just want to squeeze her, she's so sweet!

    1. Thanks, Mary! She happens to be the "rule breaker" as David refers to her. She is the first child we have had that does NOT sleep through the night. And she uses a bottle! Very tough on an old body like mine! LOL

  9. They are so, so cute in those matching pjs! I love the picture of you and David, and I'm glad you were able to get out for a little date! :)

  10. Good for you, squeezing in that date! What a bummer on the recall. Used correctly, the bumbo was one of my favorites with 5th baby:) Your weather is like ours...still swimming into Autumn. I must say we are enjoying cool mornings and eves:) 2 more days to hug you all!

Thanks for stopping by!
