Birthday Girl

Happy Birthday to Grandma Clare!

My mother-in-law...she is such a lovely person...a pillar of faith...and gentle woman that the kids just love to hug and kiss (when we get to visit her.)

Our Sally turns 11 tomorrow.  Grandma Clare told us that she turned 11 during WWII.  And here is a beautiful story she shared with us:

"Everything was rationed during the war.  Sugar.  Coffee. Even shoes.  You could only purchase one pair each year.  The leather needed to go toward the boots for the GI's.  So, I saved my  tickets one year, and instead of purchasing shoes, I purchased a brand new pair of shiny ice skates.  To this day, I still have those ice skates!"

We love you, Grandma Clare!  Happy Birthday!
